Good day folks,

I would like to know if anyone has any information or knows where to find information regarding our local laws in purchasing an air rifle, air pistols or bb guns. I found some nice "toys" on sale at Cabela's. They have a note of attention to residents of NJ to check your laws before purchasing anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In NJ you must have firearms id card to buy air rifles / bb guns. They consider them to be firearms. Which I guess means in order to legally have it shipped to yourself, you probably need to have them shipped to an FFL just as you would having any other firearm shipped to NJ. This can be a big hassle, best bet is to take your fire arms id card and drive to cabelas. Less aggrevation.

plus. a BB gun pistol is considered a real pistol and you need to get the pistol permit from NJ...it takes a few weeks ("cooldown period") need to be at least 21. you can go to any walmart in PA and prove you are over 18 and get a bb gun, or black powder gun...only problem is if you get caught with them and dont have the proper papers for NJ residents you are screwed as soon as you cross the deleware river back to NJ.

NJ gun laws suck. people need to realize that crimes are NOT done with guns bought legally. It is SOOO easy to get your hands on a firearm even if you dont have a id card. the state is making it harder for the people who have the proper ID and doing nothing to stop the ones they should be stopping.

i did have a pistol permit and bought a real nice reuger 22. now i guess i have to apply for another. for don't the permits expire after awhile?
