Looking for some help on a loose pitbull by my house. About 6 months ago some guy moved in across the street from me (renter) and he has a pitbull that he lets run around. This dog already crossed the street and came in my proprty to inspect me and my 2 little kids. I just found out that this same good jumped on and pinned down the 85 yr old lady iving next door to her, but didn't bite her. We've called the cops numerious times and filed complaints, but they can't do anything else unless the dog goes out on a all out attack.
If the dog comes on my property again, can I legally shoot it? I have to pertect my children, since the cops can't do it. It's insane...they first have to wait for someone to get mauled before they can do anything....Nice system we got.

No, unless the dog posses an imminent threat of harm(i.e is attacking someone) But you can sue the guy for tresspass. File a complaint in small claims court seeking "nominal damages" for trespass. Average is $1K per offense.Keep track of your complaints, and the number of times the dog come on your property

I don't know what ramifications there would be by shooting it. I can tell you we had a very similar situation with a rotwieler. One time it chased my wife who was carrying our son who was a baby at the time into the house. She called the cops they came, we filed a complaint and the guy got a summons. Didnt do much good because it happened a few times after that. One day I was shooting my bow in the yard and the dog got out. The guy started calling for the dog and I told him that if I see the dog on my property again that I would shoot it.

I told him straight out "if I see this dog on my yard he will get an arrow in his chest". Well low and behold one day while practicing his dog came at me full bore. I came to full draw and turned to the dog and the guy started screaming at the dog to stop. The dog stopped within 10 feet of the line. I called the cops again and we had a shouting match, we again filed a complaint and he got charged with something. I think if there was a third time the dog would have been removed from him.

I told the cops that we were afraid of this dog and if need be I will kill it. The cop said off the record to make sure the owner doesnt see it and ditch the body. Or let the dog bite me and stick him with a knife or something. I dont know the laws but I think you are in a bad spot with this. Keep filling complaints and hope for the best. Some people should not own dogs [down]

See if you can get some of that old skunk scent and hit 'em with that. Be careful not to get on you. The owner might realize letting the dog run loose might not be such a good idea.

Next the sling shot soounds good.

Could also get one of those dog blasters - high frequency sound produced.

You can write your neighbor a summons for the dog running at large. Go to your towns clerk office and you will be able to sign the ticket as a witness. That does mean however, you will have to go to court if they plea not guilty....

I own a pit mix who is extremely loving and affectionate towards everyone. Sounds to me like your neighbor doesn't care if his dog lives or dies. I trust my dog, but I don't expect anyone else to. He stays leashed and supervised at all times. He loves people, but as a powerful dog, he deserves respect for what he is capable of. With any powerful dog comes responsibility. Your neighbor makes all dog owners look bad. I hope you can resolve this matter without any harm coming to you, your family, your neighbors or the dog.

If you killed it, the worst that could happen is you would have to pay him for a replacement.
If someone kills my dog, there is a whole lot worse that can happen. I suggest you exhaust every legal option before KILLING someones pet. You are in a tough situation, but don't jump the gun.
