I've seen quite a few trees with leaves turning colors already, has anyone else noticed this?

According to the farmers almanac we're supposed to have a pretty rough winter this year,I hope they're wrong. Got to start checking the wooly bear caterpillars.

They are changing early due to the lack of rain, the trees basically turn themselves off or slow down so to speak, to conserve energy

Up in the pocono mountains all of the small trees (I don't know what kind of tree it is) dropped thier leaves 4 weeks ago already(too dry). A lot of the others are changing color now. Some are starting to drop here in warren county now.

One of the maples in my yard is full of color...just a bit early. The other trees are still green. We have been really dry and I agree with BHC that is probably the reason for the early turn.
