Jim Stabile: NRA president bore no resemblance to stereotype
Maybe it's good that there was no news coverage of the National Rifle Association president speaking at the Bridgewater Marriott last Sunday.
The shock might have been too much for reporters who have a mental image of what the typical NRA member is, and it sure isn't the group's leader, Sandra Froman. Born in San Francisco, a city that next month wants to outlaw sale and transfer of guns and ammunition, Froman never owned a gun until she moved to Arizona and a burglar tried to get into her home.
The next day she bought a handgun and, from all accounts, became an accurate shot. She's an attorney and a widow, a Stanford University grad who got her law degree from Harvard. Froman knows about gun laws and the attempts to p [no swearing please] new ones, even if they do nothing but get politicians publicity.
