I think it is a pretty good idea. I have been reading the post about weather or not to shoot a Spike. I have found that by having antler restrictions we tend to look at the deer a little better then in the past years ago if you saw bone you shot it. Now adays we tend to look a little better at the animal and we can judge everything about it. First we look to make sure the antlers are 3 or more. Then we can also asses any other characteristict's of the animal. before taking the shot. I can tell you I have shot a few deer in the past few years in zone 3 on public land where there is alot of hunting pressure. one 8 point year 1 1/2 year old not a very big rack but it was my first buck with a gun. One 6 point 2 year old deer. one 7 point 2 year old deer. All in all it's up to the hunter to decide what he or she is going to shoot.

I think AR's are great. I live in PA and the whole state is either minimum 3 pts or 4pts on 1 side. It has made the quality of our bucks go up.

If you are concerned about harvesting mature bucks there is only one thing to do...Let it grow up to be a mature buck...Then and only then will you be able to determine the potential of its rack as a free ranging NJ deer.
