The f&g people are doing a fine job
Not to start an argument but this should show you guys HOW useless the F&G feels ANY hunters input is. The public comment period is STILL open but yet they have XBOWs in the Education manual.

Regardless of the propsal wouldn't you want to know that they value your input? This action shows total disrespect for the sportsmen of NJ.

You can call it "Jumping the gun" , or you could look at it as being prepared.
By introducing it NOW into the Hunter Ed program, everyone that graduates now, has a working knowledge of Crossbow usage and safety, for when they ARE approved.
Isn't that the Safer way to go ?
I don't believe they are able to take the field test with a CrossBOW until they are "approved" .

Question is, how are some of the Bow instructors (that are RABIDLY against Xbows) going to react when they actually have to Touch one and TEACH their use. Most,I'm sure, with handle it professionally, but I'd like to be a fly on the wall watching the others. Kinda like seeing a Vampire get Holy Water poured on his hands ! [eek]

And if they were to have not been approved, what was the problem. There are plenty of Handicap shooters that would have been reading the manual and seeing the Crossbow info, and benefiting from it.

Do you predict some archery hunters ed instructors dropping out of the program cause of crossbows? Just a question.

This has been said many times before. The whole crossbow introduction was handle very poorly on the part of the state. This may cost them in the end. Just thought it needed to be said again.

I would hope not. I would hope that NJ's instructors would be open minded enough to be able to accept this new type of "BOW". Hopefully the instructors will continue to teach in a professional manor, putting their personal opinions aside during the class.

Oh and Guys (and Gals) , thanks for keeping this Civil [up]

I have heard threats to this effect in Pennsylvania. I cannot account for anyone leaving first hand. I guess my question is are they teaching the hunters ed program for the love of the sport, the chance to work with youngsters and bring them into the sport or is it the love of a particular weapon? Teaching the program does not assure the student will take to any particular weapon, just giving him/her an overview of what they may encounter in the woods. Safety should be the #1 concern for all hunters...I would hope the fine dedicated men & women that service these programs would have the students best interest at heart. I think they will....

I agree completely.

Being a hunter ed instructor myself, when we teach, we are "employee's" of F&W. Meaning we are covered by their insurance for the time we are "on the clock" so to speak. One thing about being an "employee", is that you leave you feelings about anything at the gate before pulling in. We are Employees and therefore, we support F&W on all levels.

It's the love of teaching kids and adults that means the most, and knowing that they are safe hunters when they leave us.

Sam, you are a good guy, but some people aren't as understanding as you. I was just curious to what you guys thought would happen. I talked to one guy last year when my nephew took his test. I never gave my view on crossbows, just listen to him talk about them and he wasn't to happy. Thanks

[up][up][up] This is what it should be all about. :D

I hope all the hunter's Ed instructors will continue to feel the same. Safety has always been an important factor. :)

Sam3...Congrats to you on your feeling about this! We are only human and while we may not agree with an issue personaly we should not convey our personal agenda to the students. I can only hope teachers throughout the USA will show the same class & professionalism as you![up]
