Does anyone have a link or info, I've seen it before where someone used a few pieces of reebar they hammered into the ground in a sqaure pattern and put corn in the middle so the bucks horns would get knocked off when ready...Im just wondering who's done this and how successfull it was... and also when they started doing it.

This is the Socialist Republic of Nuevo Yersey....

You cant shed hunt...well ya can, but you will get fined if you have antlers without a check tag.
I remember reading it in the game laws (probably a loooong time ago)that you couldnt have "sheds", this was before shed hunting became as well know of a "sport" as it is now.

I had a CO a long time ago bust my chops because I had a set of "rattling antlers" I found (all the tips were chewed off and busted up) but said cant have antlers from a deer you didnt check. but since they were in such pitifull shape(barely good enough for rattling) he gave me a pass.

Maybe they changed it? so shed hunting is OK now? well it is in America anyways. Ya know this state takes decades to catch up (if ever) with America.

I am sure they will make it so you have to buy ANOTHER $28 tag (per pair, I'll bet)

yes they did, As MS stated it's legal now.

As far as setting one up just hammer the re bar into the ground spaced about 18" apart about 3' sticking above ground and enough in the ground so they won/t pull or bendout. Depending on the circimference of the circle take a few bungees and encircle them Bait in the middle and you should be good to go.

I have a feeling this is going to get the "shed trap" vs "trail followers" at odds just like bait vs no bait LOL[lol]

I've seen this posted numerous times in the past but never actually seen results from the traps. Has anyone actually had it work?

I would think any of those would work since I get a couple every year just by throwing corn underneith multiflora if I was going to use a manmade item I would use truck bungees instead of wire or rebar just so no deer actualy does get trapped (Even if just for a short time)and streessed out in winter.

If you look on youtube there is video of a unit with bungees in action.

But it requires the buck to put his head in position that many big bucks would be too suspicious of.

throw corn under some blowdowns. i had one small buck drop both his antlers while feeding at a baited camera. its cool to see them on his head one minute then gone. only found one of the sheds though even though they both dropped while he was there.

like mentioned, you will have better luck baiting a blow down. start now so they get used to it weather your going to give the rebar a try or using a blow down with a bunch of branches in the top.
