never used 1 but thinking about it for this years hunting ? is how and when should one be used in new jersey

used 1 last year for my son 2 jakes came in he shot one. his first year and first day out we set decoy be hind us and called they went straight for decoy.

I was reading up on decoy setups and one that sounded like a good idea is you set your hen decoy in a sitting position because thats what they do when they are about to breed, and then set a jake a few feet behind her. If you can get a tom to see this setup he should come in being that he is going to kick that jakes ass for trying to get with one of his local hens. I have never tried this yet but it sounds like a good idea.

ANytime ealry season can be good. Late season as birds are more wary, I use them less. Keep in mind, the hen is supposed to go to the tom in nature so sometimes, a tom will hang up if he sees a hen decoy expecting she'll go to him. Also keep in mind that a tom might get nervous if he sees a decoy not moving and calling coming from a different spot as he gets closer.

All in all, decoys have worked very well for me. I use hens, jakes and toms at times.
