I'm working on starting a club called the American Legion Sportsmen,a club for veterans. There alot of guys in the American legion who are sportsmen. I figured this is a great way to get a bunch of us together. I have recieved alot of positive feedback about it.There are a couple of things I'm worried about though.
1. We dont have any land to hunt so basicly this is going to be a club about getting together to hunt and shoot where ever we can scape up. most likely on public land. I have some great Ideas about fishing and getting fishing trips together.
2.The American Legion is A political that means by us being affiliated with them we could not (as a group) voice our opinion about anything political so basicly this is just going to be a social club. I have to say I was disapointed when I found out we could not be active in voicing our opinion but I'm still excited about the club.
3.I need some ideas for good fundraisers events to help us get our feet off the groundand some contacts to get me started on donations of prizes ect...

I'm looking for any and all ideas to make this a fun club so please let me hear some thoughts from you guys your input would really help me out.

Thanks all

1) I would change the name to American Vet-Sportspersons Club (AVSC).( or something like that ) This way we can voice our opinions. I was in The Army National Guard so I can be a member.

2) Where would the club be? North, Centreal, South.

3) State Lands not bad, we can do shoots and the money we get can be put for lessing land or what ever.

That is what I can think of for now

Scrubby i got an easy money maker for you. i'm on my daughters preschool board of directors. we run fundraisers because we are a non-profit business. well made up a discount card. we got 15 local businesses to donate $50 each. wew sell the cards for $5 each. the business puts whatever they want to discount at their business on the card. the card is good for one year. it's really cheap to make up the cards. we just did 1500 cards for a couple of hundred bucks. so 1500 x $5 = $7500 for hardly any work. so now being that you want to start a hunting/fishing club, i would go out to different sport shops in the state and get them on the card. i'm telling you right now i can sell a ton of cards that give discounts at sport shops and i will also buy one from you. i forgot to mention the card is just like a credit card. if you have any questions shoot me an email [email protected] I was saving this idea if i was in a club but i'm not so what the hell. you can use it.

Jersey, lol that was the american legion post in Wharton. The commander of all people got busted for a 500,000 a month bookie operation. it had nothing to do with us.Our legion wont even have those peel off tickets like every other legion,VFW,ect... seem to have because we dont want any problems.

run a game dinner at another time of year. ive been to dinners in oct and nov.(the meat is really fresh)lol.also you can run a raffle. after you have raised funds you can buy a bow shotgun or some fishing gear and run the raffle. clubs upstate NY usually do a rifle.
