Got out to a new spot in sussex this afternoon. I saw a bunch of canadas but was not able to connect. Saw this lone hen at about 30 minutes before sunset and I was able to connect with one shot.

I just did some quick research to see that it's not a hen. Thanks for the correction. It's the red on the bill and the white chin patch right? And is it possible that it's eclipse?

very good!!!those are the big identifying factors on an immature drake woody...you'll see the subtle outline throat saddle patch... And the obvious colors of the bill starting to form...


eclipse plumage I doubt it but it's possible...you'll still get mallards in eclipse plumage now it's rare but not that uncommon
