Aun: These tracks lead to shad
Sunday, April 24, 2005
BY FRED J. AUN
For the Star-Ledger
You've heard of taking the train to the plane. Today and next weekend you can take a train to the shad. So what if it doesn't rhyme. When else can an angler hop a historic train, disembark at a fishing hole of his choosing, catch some feisty shad and flag down the train for a return trip?

In concert with Easton, Pa.'s 23rd Annual Forks of the Delaware Shad Fishing Tournament and Festival, a renovated railroad in New Jersey is offering the train rides. Anglers who entered the popular shad tournament will get free rail transportation to fishing spots along the Jersey side of the river.

That's pretty cool. I know there is a train running through canada that did the same thing up until about 10 years ago... whenever you wanted to stop for a hunting/fishing trip, the engineer would stop as long as you gave him prior notice.
