Yes that is the "check" I mentioned in my post. I had a gunsmith look at and fill it. It's with the grain and nothing to worry about. He had me wait a year after it appeared to make sure all the stress in the wood was relieved, then when he was sure it wouldn't travel any further he filled it. Very common in wood stocked rifles, as long as the "check" is with the grain your ok, if it's cross-grain, that is a problem.Is there a split in the wood stock, just below the hammer in the last photo?
