What's your favorite bird dog? Mine was a German Shorthair Pointer. Her name was Kristi. I just put her down on 1/19. She was 13 years old. That had to be the worst day of my life so far. It was so hard. But man was she a great dog. She would hold point forever. She was a bit of a runner but GSP are known for that. But man she was awesome. We would come up on a spot and i can see a couple of dogs go through it already and find nothing but we'ld come in and she would always find a bird. The wife wants to get another dog for the kids and all but i can't do it yet. I know she's chasing all the birds now.

Know what it is like to loose a friend. My Benny was 3yrs old when we had to put him down due to cancer. He was a Golden Retriever. I still have his collar hanging on my rearview mirror. We got another Golden 4 1/2 months after Benny was put down her name is Bonnie. Here is something for you and Kristi-

RAINBOW BRIDGE:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

woj,
Take your time. You may in fact want another dog sometime in the future. May be soon, may take a while. But do it when you want to not because you think you have to. Remember the one you lost.
I had to put one of my Drahthaars down last Jan. She was just about to turn 13. I only had her for years but you would have never known it the way I felt when I lost her.

NH,
Great piece. I've seen it before and really hope it's true.;)

There are mine. :D Locked up on a rooster that we got a minute or two later.
I'm partial to the lighter one, Reba, as she is my baby that I got and trained when my first dog was getting old. The first one came to me at age 7 from a friend that passed away. I had her for 6 more years.
The darker one, Dixie, came to me at age 1 in June of '05 after I put Christa down last Jan.

Yup, plan came together quite well that day on 8 or 10 birds.
Heading out to Hudson Guild on Monday. They are releasing 1300 birds this weekend. We have the place to ourselves Monday to shoot as many as we want.:D And they provide the ammo. :p

Thanks red65. They are my babies.;)
