Fall trout season grows in importance

Lots of ink is devoted each April to stories heralding the end of winter and the long- awaited opening day of trout season. After a lengthy and frigid winter, opening day is certainly something to celebrate.
Much less attention is paid to the arrival of the fall trout season, but for many anglers it's a season as anticipated, and as enjoyable, as spring.
For some trout lovers, a long, hot summer is even more intolerable than a long, cold winter. Favorite streams -- cold-water fishing havens in the spring -- turn to trickles of inhospitable bath water, buzzing with mosquitoes, not trout.
