JACKSON<--lol
— A township man wanted for outstanding child support payments was arrested by police after first fleeing into the woods as officers approach his house, police reported today.

Cory A. Phillips, 39, was sitting outside his Farmingdale Road residence when township police officers William Simon and Fred Meabe pulled their car into Phillips' driveway, police report.

Simon and Meabe were there to arrest Phillips for a child support warrant in the amount of $28,374, police said.

Phillips ran to the back of house and into the woods, which borders Interstate 195. Meabe and Simon searched the area and called for a K-9 unit.

A Howell police officer responded with his K-9 to track Phillips, who was hiding about 200 yards from the residence in a wooded area next to a fence, which borders I-195.

Phillips was arrested and transported to Jackson police headquarters where he was processed. In addition to the child support warrant, Phillips was charged with resisting arrest and bail was set at $7,500 by Judge Phillip Miller, police said.

Phillips was taken to Ocean County Jail in Toms River. Police officers Jeff Henba and Michael Goelz assisted with the search.

This guy is a SCUMBAG. [mad]

I'm divorced about 7 years now. I've been through a LONG (2 yrs. +) layoff (Now back to work 4+ years, Thank GOD!) and I know what it is when money is tight.

That said, I NEVER missed a child support payment, and I made damned sure I spent as much time as possible with my sons, and was able to provide for them above and beyond child support.

There were days when I missed lunch, or got threatened with having my electricity turned off, but if my kids needed a coat or a haircut, or a new pair of shoes, they got it!

For perspective, I've got 2 sons, I got my assessment made when I had a GOOD job, and I pay about $1100 a month.

If this guy owed over $28,000 and he made under $100,000 or more, this is a multi-year thing. Is so, he is a total dick [down][down]
