A letter in the Daily Record 8/14 ....

To the Editor:

It seems to me that black bears are subject to rhetoric of the day — such as fear — rather than the reality of the issues. The fact is that black bears have not killed anyone in New Jersey for more than 100 years, whereas the hunters have killed many. As for me, I would rather live alongside of bears than hunters. I have proved it during my 30 years in Allamuchy. My kids had to walk a mile to the school bus. I made sure they had a ride to the bus during hunting season. Please, no bear hunt. Hunters and people do not mix.

I like it when people write editorials like this. Shows that they have no clue as to what they are talking about and completley turns off people to their ideas.

I've written many editorials that have rubbed the liberal socialists and deo conservatives the wrong way. But when you stick to facts, their illogical retorts and attacks fall on deaf ears.

Here is a statement taken from the Bear Group's website 'About us'

In the 1970s, the our state’s bear population was virtually wiped out by trophy hunting,

Now in the 1970's there were virtually no bears. But in the 1970's there were approximate 200,000 resident hunters state wide. All in all hunting is one of the safest pastimes out there. As the number of hunters in our state decreases and the number of bears increase to levels unknown in recent history, what do you think will happen? Moron.

Although the writer now lives in Jackson and does not state when she lived in Allamuchy if she moved back to "bear country" now, she probably would have a different perspective in regard to her kids safety. Just like most people with common sense now understand.
