Ok, so what's going on is that the factory that makes genuine Leupold parts is run by a crook who is selling parts to his brother-in-law who then "counterfits" them and they split the money.

This is all conjecture of course, but I bet that the parts are the same, they're missing the engraving and the serial number because they "fall off the conveyor belt" before that happens.
