I have been hunting since I am 9yrs old with the bow and arrow and still havent claimed my first bow kill.At 11yrs old, only second year with shotgun bagged a nice 9pt buck weighing 165lbs and that same year a nice 5pt weighing in at 150lbs.I had both heads taxidermied.very sentimental to me.First year out with the rifle in new york I also scored, also scored with the muzzleloader.I am 34yrs old and this is the 26th year of bowhunting and still looking for that cherry to be popped.I"ve stuck quiet a few but never able to recover my prey.well tomorrow is opening day and I will be in zone 4 bright and early in the morning.Hopefully tommorrow will be the day. Please guys give me some words of encouragement,I really need them! Don't ever want to give this great sport up do to frustration.

I do my share of practicing, and am very confident with my shooting abilities.I shoot a pse and am set up to about 40yrds but never took shot over 25yrds in the woods.I had good shots on deer, but very unlucky with the recovery of them.

like JJoe says....practice.[up]

Also, don't give up to easy looking for your deer. if it's a bad shot give him time before you go looking for it.

Whats your draw weight?
What broadheads you shooting?

A well placed arrow(through lungs/heart)on a broadside deer should be found.

How long do you wait before you begin to track? If a deer is pushed when hit they can be difficult to find. What happened the last time you could not recover a deer?

my draw weight is 68lbs.I now use muzzys 100grain 3blade.Just recently switched to them before i used anderson broad head and bloodtrailer mechanical heads. Those bloodtrailers didn't leave much of a blood trail.I've lost deer that were well hit by not having permission to go on to adjacent properties to recover our game.Main reason why I am hunting state land.Lost blood trails, and always had at least 3 guys searching.I am not saying they were all great shots but should have recovered a number of them.I guess the bow gods just don't shine on me.I've shot squirrel, rabbits, and oppassums with the bow so i am pretty confident with my shooting ability.once had a bad case of target panic but have been cured of it.At least I think I have

It sounds like your equipment is good. Glad to see ya switch to 3 blade fixed head. You'll notice a difference.
Remember to take your time and pick a spot and then follow through..

Good luck,

get a squirt bottle and Proxide mixed with water. I think it's 1oz proxide with what every the size of the bottle. This will help with small blood drops that you may over look.

Try hitting back just a little. You maybe hitting a piece of bone, leaving part of the arrow sticking just anuff to help hold back the blood.

Try to take a 45deg shot Double Lunge only... The reason for me saying ONLY, is because sometime you don't hit double lunge when trying for the heart from a treestand.

If you would have posted this earlyer , I would have said " Just sit in a spot and watch the deer, after they leave climb down and look at the leaves". This helps in learning how to track You'r pray.

buckfever, always listen to me aka (DADDY), when I tell you to sit allday cause you never know what may come by I mean sit in your treestand, don't sit in a booth in a diner:p

You know the minute you whack one I'll be out helping you, maybe you should think of a archery bear hunt over bait, that would bulid your confidence
