the other day I took a buddy freshwater fishing to a local pond that holds some nice size bulls.these fish you can jig so they are fun ,when we got there there was about a dozen cats swimming on top wich I never saw before so we started fishing and landing some nice fish but we noticed a bunch had these nastey sores on them ,I walked around the area and notice a bunch of cats on top just sitting there ,I had to have seen 30 fish in all and landed a couple but some that we could see and some that we landed had sores on them ,what is this .it isnt a bite mark and all the turtles in this pond are small ,it is not possible for a turtle to do this to this many fish ,this wound was fresh

never saw one in the area ,and it was only on the catfish .I am in these waters alot so I think I would have saw one .it was a small man made pond

It doesn't appear to be a bite mark to me either.
Which would rule out a playfull otter, haveing fun with the local catfish population

I suggest you bring it to the attention of a Fishery Biologist.

I've seen catfish up on top before...used to fish for them a lot as a kid, they'd come up at the warmest time of the day and just hover below the surface.

got a couple already nothing big all let go ,I went yesterday for an hour walking in the muck and got nothing but found about 20 nests and 100's of eggs dug up .I will fill my freezer soon once I get more time

I've seen catfish up on top before

but the ones on top had this sore ,I could see ones swimming on the bottom in areas and they looked clean to me.I took a ride to an area I used to hunt some time back that is very close to this and it is now a super fund site that is fenced in ,I can only imagine what I ate ,lol. Something is leaking into the water

Sweet!! [up] We're going this weekend starting early friday am setting out the hooks. Hopefully I'll have some good pics come sunday.
