Blackfish season nearly here

This coming Tuesday, the bag limit on blackfish (tog) goes up from one to eight fish per day, and will stay there until Dec. 31.

The long-awaited start to the 2005 fall blackfishing along New Jersey inshore waters is a couple of days away, and so far reports on the tog fishing have been good, with a lot of whitechins being taken by bottom fishermen fishing for sea b [no swearing please] and porgies. These numbers have been increasing by the day, and New York boats (whose season already is open) have been seeing some banner fishing. About 70 percent of the bottom fishing boats along the Jersey coast will make the switch to targeting tog, and with warmer-than-normal inshore water temperatures this fall, the prospects for some good fishing through the end of the year looks good. So here are some tips on how you can get in on the fishing:
