I am currently strictly a bowhunter but am looking at NY Rifle for next yr. Any suggestions on Camo type orange patterns for ground hunting that fills the requirement?

No orange required in NY

Although there are no blaze orange requirements in NY state, I still choose to wear a Mossy Oak Blaze hat in the treestand and when I am walking I still opt to flip my harness orange side out.

gonna have to consider the safety in not wearing some orange...rifles shoot a long way and people do stupid things [wallmad]

Orange isn't bulletproof nor does it stop people from doing stupid things. Just be smart. Remember legal shooting hours in NY are sunrise to sunset, not 1/2 before and after. If you hunt public land, stay away from the crowds and use your light walking in and out even if you don't need it, it could save your life.

I am solid orange from head to ankle when I deer hunt, and bag deer.
