EWING - A 300-pound black bear spent yesterday afternoon wandering through back yards around Lore School, eating leisurely from bird feeders while police tracked his movements and kept vigil around the elementary school grounds.

A 300lb bear eating from bird feeders in the mid-afternoon without any fear of the people around it. Hmmmmmmm? I'm sure it's just me being a whiner but nothing good can come from that kind of situation! This bear will keep looking near people for food and if it is a sow it will now teach it's young to look near people for food. This will now only increase the chances of someones pet or child getting hurt or killed. Will this happen? Maybe, maybe not. A bear with no fear just increases the chances... As this and last years cubs grow more and more bears will be pushed into neighborhoods.IMHO nothing good will come from that! There are too many bears for the limited space here in NJ!

"Right now the bear poses a threat. We're just monitoring his movements and hopefully he'll wander back north where he came from."
Wander back north?? Sorry, bears are almost everywhere now. They asked for them and now they've got them.

I guess it's ok for us people up "north" to have to deal with the "threat" everyday.

Hmmmmm!!!!!! How can this be, bears in NJ? The state says we don't have alot of bears, and none in Central or Southern NJ. This is like a cover up, like AREA 51, or Roswell New Mexico:p

It did manage to get to Trenton. It was tranquillized in Cadwalader Park by F&W that had another bear in their truck already.

The article was in the Sunday Trentonian, it reported that the bear was smaller than originally thought, and the BOTH bears were believed to be released into Assunpink WMA (accorging to the Trentonian).

"The bears were believed to have been trucked to the Assunpink Preserve in Washington Township an Upper Freehold, Morris said."
