Just so you guys who plan on hunting Bear this year you will not have the whole state to hunt in. The bear season is set up in zones with limited permits per zone
Zone 1 2000 permits Sussex, Warren
Zone 2 3000 Permits Sussex, Warren, Morris
Zone 3 3000 Permits Sussex, Passaic, Morris, Bergen
Zone 4 2000 permits Warren, Hunterdon,Morris,Somerset,Sussex

It's unlikely there will be 10,000 permits issued. I would doubt that any 1 zone would be filled up.

if you haven't taken the mandatory bear cl [no swearing please] in the past then you will have to take it. It's only a few hours long

The story with the hunt this year is this: The bear "policy" goes public sometime next week, there is a public meeting on 9/21 and hopefully shortly thereafter Campbell will give it his blessing and sign off on it. It's important to make a good showing on 9/21.

The upside to this is the "bear policy" is a 5 year plan. If it goes through this year we won't have to do it every year.

Just because there are 10,000 permit avaiable does not mean that you can not get shut out if you want to hunt zone which covers a lot of the Water gap Park and High Point you could be shut out.

There are no bears in Sussex county at all. They're all in Cape May county
