Tick...tick...tick indeed.

My friend lives in Newton (@ Lake Lenape) & had a large bear in his driveway last week. His wife was trying to get to her car to go pick their daughter up at school, but couldn't get past the bear. She tried all those B.E.A.R. suggestions (like banging pots together, yelling & jingling her car keys) but the bear just looked at her as if to say, "What do you want?...I'll leave when I'm ready!"

BTW, he has two little girl ages 7 & 3
I didnt see the story......
there's a shocker, I wonder if the newspapers knew about this.
attack or incident?
I feel so sorry for that family. No surprise it's not in the Daily Record.
attack or incident?
the OP said the dog had to be put down, sounds like an attack to me. I am sure though the dog deserved it and if the people didn't own the dog or live where they did this coulod have been avoided.....

I didn't see a damm thing on the nj.com forums for West Milford so I just asked.

Plus, according to the animal rights groups, all dogs have been domesticated by humans so they should all be dead anyway.[wallmad]
maybe we should capture and train bears to kill the dogs and then kill the bears after the dogs are gone, problem solved
this is going to take someone getting killed to get a bear hunt back in nj.
Bears have been killing and eating dogs in West Milford since I moved there in late '69. You just don't often hear it in the news. I can tell you of at least 3 I know of in the last 15 years in that town. Most were dogs chained to a tree that had no escape option. Best to kennel them or keep them in the house. What a shame, you know it is tearing apart some family that their pet was destroyed like that.

One more year and no King Jon, then we can hunt bears again...Christie is on record supporting the state biologists. Let's hope that's not just another lie from a politician.
It would be a bad day to be a bear.My dogs are family[mad]
