My 12 y/o just came home and told me that while one Gym cl [no swearing please] was out having archery practice and bear walked behind the path between the back of the middle school and the high school football field. He said the gym coach told everyone "Inside now!"

So they are nothing to worry about, huh? Like he was attending school for an education?

Yea that was a little scrambled but I know what he means. That is right by my area and there has been a Bear roaming the area causing some trouble. Bears at schools is just way to close for comfort.

We have raccoons too, but bears at the school is too close for comfort. My kids are all walkers.

Ant said they should have shot at him too, But like I told him the are middle school kids and I'm sure not that many of them actually HIT the targets, well not where they aim to anyway. LOL

They said their hadn't been one that close to the school in 2 years. I sure that their had. Maybe it was just by THAT school...we have 5.

That area has Bears all over by it. I am sure they had Bears there in the past but the school works may have seen them and they are not going to say anything. the only reason you are hearing of it now is because the kids saw it. I have seen them back there before while walking the dog in that area. [mad] Very dangerous for them to be there with the kids around. Kids carry food in there back packs all one hungry Bear needs to do is smell that and it will chase down a kid for the food. This is the time of year when they start some big time feasting getting ready for the winter so they will be looking for that snack of Bologna and Cheese lets just pray nothing happens to a child or anyone for that fact in that area.

They quite frequently travel from woods by the civic center, p [no swearing please] Tulsa trail and the high school and down to the middle school. From there they hit the power lines, p [no swearing please] Durban ave and over to Sparta Stanhope road. It's a pretty heavily traveled corridor.

We have these protected wetlands next to our house and I worry about them being in there and the kids in the back yard. We've seen deer and pheasant there. 2 years ago saw a [no swearing please] and a hen. Only saw the [no swearing please] this year.
Man we need to get a fence up...not that that will stop the bears, but may slow them down a little bit.

I saw one small bear walking the hill on brooklyn stanhope rd in the spring when I was headed to 206. He was probably 150#.

THE NON-HUNTING PUBLIC THINKS THESE BEARS ARE TEDDY BEARS AND DO NOT UNERSTAND THEY CAN CAUSE HARM. THE BEARS IN NEW JERSEY ARE WAY TO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. WE AS HUNTERS ARE THE ONES WHO CONTROL THE POPULATION OF GAME ANIMALS. LOOK AT THE DEER IN NEW JERSEY, COMPARED TO YEARS AGO WE CAN TAKE 4-5 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF DEER EACH YEAR AND STILL CAN'T MAKE A DENT. DEER ONLY EAT LANDSCAPING!!!!

DSW,

The best backyard protection you can possibly get is a good dog. Not just any dog but one that has no fear of bears. No matter how big the bear, if the dog is properly trained that bear will NOT get anywhere near your kids. Plus, they will let you know when one is around well before you see them.

My personal favorite is the Black Mouth Cur. Great with humans but hell on bears.

Never heard of that breed.
We have a Golden Retriever. Don't know how she'd do with a bear. But she heads to the nasty water in the wetlands everytime the 3 year old opens the door and lets her out. When we catch her she'd just black! Uck!
