It depends on what you want to shoot. I use two different scopes on the same AR. Both have Millet Grabber scope rings. I have a Leopold Mil Dot TMR for long range shooting 4x12x40. I can range targets with this scope. I also have a 3x7 that I use for 0 to 100 yards. As long as I set the scope rings in the same slots in the picatinny rail I good to go. Take the scope off and I have flip up iron sights.

What price range and distance are you looking at? This will narrow down what we can suggest for you. I prefer variable scopes bc they work better with my astigmatism. Vortex makes a PST 1-4x which is very rugged, has a great reticle, and has a bulletproof transferrable lifetime warranty. They can be had for around $400 used. I also have a vortex 1-6 with crystal clear glass, but thats starting to get up there in price.

If you are looking at going less expensive the Leatherwood Hi-Lux CMR 1-4x has the best glass I have found for around $250 and it also has a very usable reticle.

I don't have a pic handy of the Vortex but here is a reticle pic of the Hi Lux
