ALCON,
BG Maddux and LTC Koehler have directed a temporary prohibition on recreational hunting and trapping in the following areas due to possible UXO. This prohibition applies immediately and will remain in effect until further instructions are provided:
2B, 2W, 3, 4, 5B (South of Peterson St./Babbit Rd. intersection), 6N, 6B, 7S, 8N, 9B, 11E, 13E, 13W, 17, 18E (East of Green Pond Brook), 20B.
Thank you for your cooperation. More information will be made available concerning the status of these hunting areas in the near future.
V/R,
Robert Hailstone, Safety Office
The command group at Picatinny has announced the all recreation use on Picatinny Lake is closed as of 19 Sep. 2011, until the dam/wall project is completed by the end of this year.
These areas probably have the best deer...

Remember, Maddux shot the biggest racked buck last year. They might be closed to keep the pressure down. I have seen Generals do weirder things (like open up the network restrictions during fantasy football season...).

BillHoo - if you plan to hunt there, get there early or you might not get the area you want. First come, first served.

Also, does anyone really eat ANYTHING coming out of that place??!! Remember, they didn't BRAC the base because of the cost for the environmental cleanup. Most people don't even drink the water. I see deer everywhere, but I don't know if I could eat that meat. It's really why I never tried hunting there.
Also, stay the hell away during 6 day. Talk about a sh*tshow. The orange army is out in force...

I'm really surprised no one has been shot.
Is there an impact area and a Range Control station to let you know where you CANNOT hunt?
You need a training course and then you need to sign in at the police station before you go afield. Google the Picatinny Rod and Gun Club and get some contact info from there. They will point you in the right direction.
During the 6 day, the "orange army" usually drive certain areas, not all. I have never had a problem with driving.
That's good to hear. I haven't had good experiences with large drives like that (not at Pica though) and maybe a little biased [eyeroll]
