I decided to do an afternoon hunt today. I went to a piece of public land that I scouted Saturday.
I got all settled in at 4:00PM. 2 minutes later I saw movement in front of me at 75 yards. I watched a nice Bear walk over a ridge a dissapear.
At 5:02 a good Doe came by and I hit her good at 20 yards. She ran the direction that I saw the bear go. At 5:30 I started following a good blood trail. I found an area where the deer had been dragged and thought someone took her. Then I saw the Bear at 30 yards having a feast. I made some noise to see if he would leave her but he won. I backed off and went home.
On my way home I'm dring Route 15 South and I see a car in the right lane with its flashers on. As I p [no swearing please] I see a very nice 8 point had been hit and was still alive. He was trying to get to the woods but his back legs didn't work and blood was dripping from his mouth.
He made it to the shoulder and died in about 5 minutes.
The Jefferson PD arrived and I asked if they issued transportation tags cause I would take it home and butcher it. Well they do. I had to drive to the Police station and get the transportation tag.
I will post pictures shortly. I have pix of him still alive in the right lane of Rt 15 South.
What can I expect when I skin him tomorrow. Will most of the Meat still be good??
