got set up around 5:45 thinking the birds should be coming from their usual roosting place when i hear some gobbles coming from a complete different direction, so i picked up my decoys and headed down a trail to keep in line with the birds, did some tree talking to the birds and got a few responses after fly down they seem to be heading away from me so i start calling after a few monutes i hear gobbling and they cut the distance from 200plus yards to about 100 then 50 yards the bird must have crossed the trail just before the bend so i didnt see him for the next 30 minutes he would not get any closer than 30 yards, with no clear shots avaiable i just kept trying to convince him that he should come see the decoy but he wasnt thinking that he wanted her to come to him, he then started to walk away and would gobble every few mintues but would not come back, If i had only set up on the other side of the trail i would have seen him but thats hunting, i'll be back out on saturday few a little bit before i head to the njoa shoot

I'm not an authority on calling turkey. But, I went without a decoy last season after 2 setups that went exactly the same way. I would safely say birds either came in like gangbusters....or they would hang up 20-30yds from the decoys. No in between. Even had a few come in till they saw the decoys and turn right around and book. Early last season after one such calling sequence, I ran it by my brother who has years on me turkey hunting, and the first thing he said without hesitation was "leave the decoys at home". Since then, I have not had the same issues. And a few birds to show for it as well.;)
