Looking on going on another archery bear hunt in NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA if anyone would like to go let me know. It would take place the 1st full week of September 2007, that would be there opening week of archery only, bugs aren't bad. I've been to this lodge 3 times before, lots of bears, good food, nice cabins with hot running water with flush toilets and showers, transportaion to and from hunting area. Its about 11 or 12 hr trip from Bergen County, hunt cost is somewhere around $1200, plus $100 for a bear tag, $120 for a deer tag. Or we can do a rifle deer hunt in November 2007 2nd or 3rd week of that month, big body deer, nice racks, but the hunting can be tough, but I saw some whoppers up there on my 3 bear hunts So if anyone here would like to go let me know.

rutnbk: ok your in[up]

tommy: my 1st hunt there was back im 97 I took a 300lb bear, my 2nd hunt I missed a gorgeous bear that would go 400/450lbs with a nice white V on his chest never to see him agian, and I ended up taking a 200lb bear on the last day of that hunt, 3rd time I didn't harvest a bear, I had a 325/350lb bear circle the bait never to give me a good shot, saw 8" footprints near that bait and was holding off for that bear. My friend Sammy who will be going also, took a bear his 1st time there, it was a small bear and was taken on the last day of his hunt, and I say this that bear had a gorgeous thick pelt, he did miss a 300lb bear, did hit but never found another one in the middle week, he said that one was in the mid 200lb range. So you have a chance to see bears in the 350/500lb range.

Just ask rutnbk, he hasn't been to this lodge, but he knows a few guys like me who went there, and there are some good chances of getting a nice bear, and I'm sure he would say he has heard great things from this outfitter.

Deer hunting like I said can be tough, but rewarding. The outfitter told me that you can hunt all week a see a few deer, but what you see can be huge, and I've seen them.

Very nice ..I really want to do a yogi hunt next year , I would just like to see something 300 pounds and up.....I think the problem I had in maine was twenty guy's a week ..and also I was told my bow shot would be beteewn 15 and 25 yards.. I had one shot around 20 , it was way to thick for a bow shot , so I asked to be moved and the next stand was worst....[down] But it did not matter anyway because they were all to small ...Is the first week bow only or can you use a gun..

Like to get 8 to 12 guys to go, thats the amount we had in the past. The 1st week is bow only, the weather is great that time of the year, very cool mornings and nights, while hunting it's just comfortable out.

Brakfast is at 7am, after that do what you like sleep, eat more, practice shooting, etc. your main meal is around 11am, off to hunt between 12:30 and 1pm, in your stands by 2 or 2:30pm, guide walks you in and while your getting into your stand he is baiting for you, hunt till dark, wait in your stand till the guide comes in for you. If your not seeing game they will move you.

I would love to do a rifle deer hunt there, but it's really tough hunting but some big deer. I just read in a magazine that New Brunswick is the sleeper of Canada for all big game, and that whitetails can get over 300lbs by the ages of 2.5/3.5, the does I saw up there are huge also. I'm game either way bear or deer, so if more guys want bear then it's bear, if more want deer then it's deer, thats fair[up].

I'm good friends with one of the owners Carmen Kelly, if we do the 1st week of bear our paid hunt starts Sunday, but he will allow us to show up on Saturday, we will have access to the main lodge and to our own cabins ( 2 men per cabin for most )all we need to do is supply ourselves food for Saturday and Sunday morning. So what we did in the past was we all made stuff at home like baked ziti, meatballs, sausage, peppers & onions, etc., brought soda, beer, etc. we can use the kitchen in the main lodge to heat the food up. Then on Sunday they will give out our tags which you pay for then in cash or you can pay in advance before leaving NJ, then they will assigned you to a guide, some guides will allow you to go with them that day to bait the sights so you can see it for yourself, or others rather you not go, cause the bears are use to the scent of that guide and not yours.

Hockysticks: I love deer hunting, but bear over bait with a bow is exciting. You never hear these bears coming in, and if you do I swear you think the sound of a branch snapping is made by a small animale. The stands are all homemade roughly 12' to 15' high, shots are less then 20yds, I would say avg. shot would be 15yds. the last bear I took was at 8yds. the 1st one was at 15yds., you can also take a coyotie if you can get one to stand still. Also you may get lucky and see moose, during this time of year it's the moose rut, and hearing run chasing a cow is like a 18 wheeler coming thru the woods, very exciting[up]
