Hey guys, I'm new to the board and new to hunting (haven't been out yet, actually).
I'm taking a hunter's education course next month (rifle, shotgun and bow).

I'm not sure that I'll be bow hunting anytime soon. It looks like it takes a lot more skill than I have and I don't want to end up just maiming the turkey or missing out on a good chance for a kill. As of right now, I think I'll be sticking to a shotgun.
However, I might change my mind on that at some point, so I would like to pass the bow course.

Now, one of the requirements is having your own bow to qualify with.

Any suggestions for a decent bow or crossbow in the $100 range? I know that a good bow/crossbow will run 3-4 times that, but like I said, I probably won't be taking any turkeys with it (let alone deer).

Looking forward to your knowledge and insights.

Going to be hard pressed to find a bow for a hundred bucks used.250 is a more reasonable price you just have to keep looking on here and other forums for a deal .Good luck

See if you can borrow an xbow from someone to use for the test. Much easier than buying a crap bow for $100 and trying to get the thing shooting right as you are new to archery. Anyone can pass with an xbow.

In my opinion, there are no good crossbows out there for 100.00. If you've decided to use a crossbow for your test, the suggestion NJBackwoods gave you is a good one.

I agree with NJBackwwods, borrow a bow or don't bother trying to find one with bolts for $100. You can always drop the archery section for now and just take the other sections and purchase a bow next year and take that alone. I think if you take one of the sections (rifle, shotgun, or archery) and go back for one or more of the other disciplines within 1 year, you don't need to take the entire hunter safety section a 2nd time. I know there are Hunter Ed instructors on here that can correct me or confirm.

I got really lucky last year that someone here sold me their Hoyt Ultratech fully loaded for $125, but I had to put more than that into the bow to get arrows and other things to get it ready. I can't imagine finding a ready to shoot bow of any kind for $100.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I think I'll put the bow course off until next year.
