We are sorry to report the sudden passing of Conservation Officer III Mike Szalaj on December 30, 2016. CO Szalaj had been an officer with the Division’s Bureau of Law Enforcement since 2004, initially assigned to the Marine Enforcement Unit. He later transferred to the Central Region and was assigned to Burlington County where he patrolled for many years.
He was a graduate of the State University of New York earning a degree in fishery and wildlife management. An outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and dog training, he loved teaching and sharing his outdoor passions with his young daughter.
Viewing hours are scheduled for Wednesday, January 4 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Peppler Funeral Home (609-259-7391), 114 South Main Street in Allentown, Monmouth County, and Thursday, January 5 from 10 a.m. until church services, which are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Allentown Presbyterian Church on 20 High Street.
