I teach at NJIT and can tell you that things have gotten much worse there over the past several months. This was the second murder on campus in the past few months, I think there were 5 shootings over the past 4 days in Newark.

Last year when my daughter was looking into colleges, she's graduating high school a year early, Rutgers was one of them that she was interested in. I steered her away from them.

The doofus that replaced Jim Gearheart on 101.5 said that all Fraternities at NJIT/Rutgers Newark should get dogs Of course, this is the same guy who supports the right to carry, but only with a six month pass/fail safety course, enhanced background check/proctological exam, and an absurdly high annual fee...

Depending on what she wants to study, Rutgers might be a good option for her. Rutgers New Brunswick is a totally different animal than Newark or Camden-it's a world class institution in many respects and will hit your pocketbook a lot less than a private school. I wouldn't write it off that quickly. I'm getting my masters from RU-Newark online-never set foot on campus once and never intend to.

My point is that if you want to put your head down and study hard you can get a great education for a fraction of the cost of a private institution. A good friend of mine got his BA in civil engineering from Rutgers New Brunswick and is now going for his masters there. He'll end up spending less on both degrees than my brother-in-law paid for his bachelors (also in CE) from Villanova. Regardless of what some hippy dippy art student is doing who will be crying in a few years about how he bought a degree in nothing with $100K in student debt

Same goes for NJIT, #1 in starting salery vs student debt. in the US. I don't think it rates very high as a party school.

I thought Rutgers in general was going down the toilet?

EDIT: Although I'm sure the football program will be just fine given the millions of taxpayer dollars from our paychecks that are spent on them.
