Questions about Baymen of the Great Bay, Tuckerton and Motts Creek

    Greetings everyone,
I am a creative writing student from the Absecon area and am trying to write a book in which one of the characters is a clammer living on Motts Creek...

Does anyone know where a commercial clammer living on Motts Creek would sell their clams?

Also, would this bayman have their own leased land they fish on or would it be public land?

there seems to be decent amount of information online about the methods and the process, but little on who a clammer living on Motts Creek or operating on the Great Bay would sell their clams too, and how that process would work .

I am also an avid outdoorsman and striper fisherman, and thought this would be the best forum to ask this .

    Thanks in Advance!

Maxwell’s alongside Nacote Creek off of Route 9 in Atlantic County sells local seafood. Allen’s Clam Bar on Route 9 in New Gretna bought local shellfish many years ago. The late Win Allen was the NJ State Champion oyster Shucker for many years. I saw clammers on Reed’s Bay for the past 53 years.

There is Horace cavaliers old place on Lower Shore Rd in Lower Bank, Parsons Seafood in Tuckerton, Cavalier's is now owned by someone different but still buys clams. Most of the old timers had leased grounds but also worked the "wilds" for clams if the market was down they'd harvest clams from open ground and plant on their lots for reharvest when the market pick up.
" Trout don't rise in the cemetery, so fish while you're able."
A word to the wise......is not necessary, save it for the stupid ones!
