nice bird congrats !!!!
I have been chasing this turkey all week. Roosting in different spots every day, crossing the road where I can't hunt, running around with the ladies and ignoring my calls; you know the routine. The funny thing was that he was hopping on one foot where ever he went. Perhaps suffering from a torn meniscus like myself? Today I set up where he was yesterday, but unfortunately he was over where I was set up the day before. Thinking if I moved over there, he would then be, over here(lol), I stayed put. Well, I could see him strutting around with about 8 hens and another gobbler about 400 yards away across the big field. They eventually crossed the road and I figured that was it for the day. About a half hour later, as I was sitting there basking in the early morning sun I see a hen over where the Toms had been strutting. Well... I decided to sneak over along the field edge and try to set up on the edge of the woods where the Toms had been. I made it over there and got set up. I gave a few soft clucks and yelps and was immediately answered by two gobblers! Apparently they had come back! After about 20 minutes of some calling back and forth I saw him come hopping and strutting slowly along on one foot. lol My heart was really pounding! I let him have it at 35 yards and that is the story of how I got old "hopper". A great morning! Thanks for reading 20#, 1" spurs, 12.25" beard.
