We had a dirty bird roosted last night and everything was in place. Well that was till all this rain came in We still snuck into our spot in the dark with rain coming down hard on us. We made it to our blind and sat back and waited. Soon we had a couple birds sounding off from their roost. After a while we seen a couple hens that somehow hit the field without seeing them and not too far behind was a long beard. The hens decided to take him away from our set up but we still called hoping to get the hens in. It took over and hour of patience but we finally had the hens coming in our direction with the long beard in tow.
As they approached our blind they stayed out at 60 to 70 yards, way to far for me to shoot. Then the hens decided to hang a left and leave our set up and the long beard was going as well But we kept calling and before you knew it the long beard broke from the hens and came in gobbling from around the hedgerow he had disappeared around. All of a sudden he was at 30 yards so I put my dead ringer sight on him and let some #5 go. Hit him hard and he went around the corner and that was that. Great hunt with my buddy Nick and Steven Bush from Mossy Oak who captured the entire hunt for an episode of Mossy Oak Hunting the Country.
Like I said, you don't need a wagon wheel but if you are going to use any wheel, please don't use the junkyard ghetto one
Here are some pics of the guys and the dirty bird from today's hunt. Good luck to all that are chasing the dirty birds
