    Process to get a handgun

    OK
I got my FID card several years ago, I can not remember the details about the process.
Passed all the checks and I don't buy a long gun for about 3 years also.
But now I would be interested in owning a pistol so I know I have to get the permit for handgun (30 days windows I know)
but I assume having the FID the heavy part of the process is done?
I am going to my town's PD and start but just want to know what to expect and what to ask for now
As I said, after several years some thing could have been changed
    any guidance?

    Thank you

All depends on what town your in. Some are great some are ok and some are just a nightmare. I believe there was a change to something not to long ago i think there's a thread on it. Its been about a year and a half since i bought one.

Applied for a handgun permit six months ago had to get application from Springfield which is the town i live in filled out app. two other people had to sign off that are not relatives had to make appt to get fingerprinted than had to call town when i got fingerprinted and bring in documentation. A few weeks for the chief to sign off. Went to Heritage Guild to buy a glock 9mm they ran it through the feds. Done deal. Purchase my 9mm ammo from Dicks $9 box of 50 rounds. Go to RTSP in Union during the week. Im retired less crowded.

    Question
Did you pass for the fingerprint process again?
Well, I did all that when I got my FID card... so, I have to do this again for a handgun?
    Thanks

I am going to my local PD to start

Having an FID card has nothing to do with Handgun Permit to Purchase.

No, you will just fill out the handgun permit application, pay the fee, and wait for it to come in. No fingerprinting.

Once you have the FID (one time only unless you change addresses) you are good for long arms. The pistol permit is a new application at the PD (form off the internet I believe) 2 non-relative character witnesses, and wait for the PD to get back to you. My town takes 1,2 weeks depending on what else is going on; my brother used to live in Lyndhurst and it was 2 day turn around. Then again, some towns drag their feet....by law they can't but, what else is new in NJ?
