bird shot at dicks and sabot slugs at ramsey. I guess this is why. I was expecting them to ask for it from reading stuff on here. I reload or buy my ammo in Pa due to location of my house..

Ok, after reading through the NJ firearms law site I still have a few questions. My grandmother currently holds all of my grandfather's (deceased) guns which are mostly long guns (including a Fox Sterling) with a few handguns thrown in here or there. My dad also has his share. I am one of two and my brother is not a hunter but he does shoot with me once in a while. In any event, he doesn't really want them so one day these guns will all go to me. How do I make sure that everything is done legally so that I don't jeopardize any of these family heirlooms? What documentation is needed?

Right now, your grandmother is the legal owner. Make sure she has in her will that they will be left to you. Same thing in your father's will.

The only other way is to transfer them with Certificates of Eligibility and handgun permits.

If you can point me in the right direction...

I recently Moved to NJ and have a couple muzzerloaders, shot gun and Rifle. Although I mainly bow hunt, I enjoy shooting the guns at the range and trap houses.

Do I have to re-register the guns with NJ to shoot at the range and trap houses?

    Thank you,
    Dave

No. Legally you are fine. There is no mandatory registration in NJ. If you think you will ever buy a firearm in NJ you will need to apply for an NJ FPID at your local police department.

My wife got the estimate of 45 days for FID/Pistol permit.
We picked it up today at 31 days.
Not all police are well versed in firearm law. It is not their main job checking references.
A very good experience at the police dept.
