I have not purchased a handgun since 1989. I reviewed the current laws and noticed that they have added a mental health form. Does this mean that you have to fill out this form along with the handgun purchase permit? Also the form is a little confusing, the way I understand it is even if you have seen a physcologist as an out patient for say marital counsoling, job loss with monetary problems, physical health problems or the death of a spouse or child you have to fill out this form. Has it become this restrictive?
This doesn't apply to being an out patient, only to being confined.

Secondly, The uncertain law. In NJ you have the right to pocess hollow point ammunition. You can shoot it at any local range. However it is illegal to use as defensive ammo. I lost the paperwork that had the exact web address but it is infact true.

Does having a fistfight 48 years ago,and being convicted of aggravated assault and battery prevent one from possessing a weapon legally in new jersey? I have four guns and no permit. I went to buy ammo at a gunsmith shop that I've used and was asked for a firearm permit? Why?

If the assault charges were when you were an addult you may have to get them expunged but I would def disclose it on your application. Every place I go wants to see FID for pistol and rifle ammo too. Im not sure but it might be a new law.

the new law is you hafta show your firearms id card to purchase any ammo that goes into a pistol. Dick's sporting goods won't sell you any ammunition except 12 and 20 gauge without it.

Thanks for the messages njgunner and KoBear, I'll see what they come up with ,maybe the fight when I was 21 won't matter much now. It was when I lived in Pittsburgh. I've never been in court since.Handlesd guns all my life, but New Jersey law is something else. Thanks again, Joe

Can I carry a firearm on my person?
One can carry a legally owned firearm:
    (a) on his property or business owned by him
    (b) on a 'State Filed Charter' Target Range
    (c) while hunting or fishing during open season with a license in possession
    (d) if he possesses a 'Permit to Carry'
Correct me if I'm wrong. Am I reading this right. According to that you can carry while fishing????
I would rather have a moose hunter from Alaska than a jackass from Chicago
