Feel free to disagree, but someone whose own physician deemed them "a danger to themself" two years ago doesn't need to be owning a gun just yet. Even if avidly into hunting or the shooting sports, there are other ways to partake. Further, I don't think anyone taking anti-depressants, for a psychiatric condition, should own a gun either. We have a real problem with the mentally ill and guns in this country and until we address it head on it will continue to be the leading argument for further gun control.

I agree he should not have gotten the FID.

everyone could have a rough time in life if he can get a doctor to say he is ok seems harsh to never allow him to own a gun. Like others have said hopefully everything is good before you use that FID (only you know how you feel)

The old remedy for hepatitis C was interferon, they have something new now. Interferon has a side effect of depression so doctors routinely prescribe anti depressants with the 11 month treatment. I cannot see why that would effect a FID approval, yet it depends on the town. That is, the attitude of the police chief and/or mayor & town council toward the Second Amendment. Many towns would use anything as an excuse to curtail 2A rights.

    Just FYI for those interested.

From NJ Application for Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit:

Question: (26) Have you ever been attended, treated or observed by any doctor or psychiatrist or at any hospital or mental institution on an inpatient or outpatient basis for any mental or psychiatric condition? If yes, give the name and location of the doctor, psychiatrist, hospital or institution and the date(s) of such occurrence. Yes No

Bet you there was a problem he chose not to come out with. My point is that those of us choosing to exercise any of our rights cannot accept the state (in all its manifestations) forcing us to jump through hoops ahead of time. Something known as prior restraint.....
