I'm with Dakota bear. Not only can I get the finger prints, but I also have the ability to take the damn background and security clearance check with me! $60.25 wasted. Not to mention that I'd just gotten my prints taken at the same place less than a year earlier to be a coach in our town, for the Meghan's law certification, and they wouldn't accept that!

Pdg929...welcome aboard! Yes, if you've never purchased a handgun before they will make you go through the process. However, I'm in Ocean township (where this thread originated). I was fingerprinted on my first pistol permit here (by the police) before they went to morphotrack. I was fingerprinted last year for coaching youth basketball (by morphotrack). My most recent pistol permits did not require additional fingerprinting. So I think (of course I could be wrong) that once you're in the system, you're good to go. At least that is my experience.

No need for prints after you get your FID.

    Just fill these forms out..

    http://www.njsp.org/info/pdf/firearms/sp-066.pdf

    http://www.njsp.org/info/pdf/firearms/sts-033.pdf

You can fill them out online and print them out. Take the forms and a $18 Money Order to your local PD or State PD if they serve your area.

I always get 3 permits no matter what, they always can be extended another 90 days if need be.

Not sure why we even need FID cards anymore when we have to get a NICs check everytime we buy a gun and pay for that as well . So what actually is the purpose of the FID card?

Exactly our permit system hasn't been updated since 1967 the didnt really even have computers back then. Its is all about making it inconvenient for you to buy a gun. Why do they even need your fingerprints anyway nowhere else does that.

When I got mine done i had to go to a privatized company so they could finger print me and then send those prints to the FBI and NJSP. It cost me $51.00 but I can't remember the place's name. It was in Paramus in Bergen county.
