The rules say not within 450 feet of a "building".

I was going to use this structure as a ground blind:

That's not a "building", right? Like no one in their wildest imaginations could think this was breaking the rule, right? Specifically this is a L-shaped wall that is the remaining foundation of an old farmhouse.

    Just being paranoid

But if he uses it as a ground blind then it WILL be occupied right?

Personally i wouldn't call that a building. Its more of a brick wall than anything else.

450 from an occupied dwelling or road...hunt away bud and things like that are great! My brother has shot many a deer from an old beat up pickup truck on the property we hunt. Its been there for years and the deer dont pay any attentiont to it!

I checked the laws today. I didnt see it saying anything about dwelling at all. It says must be atleast 450 feet from any man made perminant structure. Legally the way the nj laws are written as of now anyway, someone if they wanted to could stop you from hunting with in 450 feet from it. But I would not worry about it, hunt away unless that is over the property line and the owner of that building catches you with in 450 feet and he is strongly against hunting or something.....

Yeah that's what I thought - it's public land and I figured my chances of seeing a ranger were pretty high so I just wanted to get an opinion. There's a couple of other such structures around there, some more complete than others, but no one would ever mistake them as occupied.

I hate to burst peoples bubble here but the law is that it is an occupiable dwelling... it may sound like splitting hairs but it's where people are going to get tripped up. You don't just need to be worrid about someones house... a shed is considered an occupiable dwelling because someone could be hidden from view within the walls. BB, if rangers are common in the area, get their opinion.
