He was in a tree stand...what's the dog going to do...climb up? Should of just made a call from the cell to the local PD explaining the situation. I am sure they would of responded. All around shame

From the outset, Van Nostrand admitted to shooting two arrows and killing the dog from his position in a tree stand where he sat with his son -- but maintained that it was self defense. Van Nostrand called 911 himself after the incident.

WTF, He was in a tree stand and afraid of the dog attacking him?

“Mr. Van Nostrand sees himself as a victim here because these dogs were allowed to come out, stalk and threaten him,”"

Really he felt threatened up in a tree. Was the dog coming at him with a ladder of his own?

I see this took place in PA Not NJ,
Without researching NJ Game Laws I do remember that NJ had a law stating If and When any Dog was encountered ( DURING ) Deer Season in The Woods it was legal to shoot it, The reason Dogs being House dogs or wild ones Run deer to their death and in packs kill them.
That along with laws of having controls of your dogs and Leashed are the law.

Yes During small game they run free, I am getting The PopCorn and and Beer to watch this one
Might add I have not read the NJ Game Laws for Years You Armchair Lawyers out there can answer if question if that still is the case today. I for one would try to Identify a Collared Friendly dog from a stray how ??? that decision is up to you,
