    Belgium browning a5 question

    I have a chance to buy a Belgium a5. Not sure if it has a slug barrel on it but I do know it is 12g and from late 60' early 70's. I am not sure what it is worth. I don't want to over pay or score the seller either. Any thoughts?

    thanks

    Depending on model and condition ~$800-$1200 and up. If your buying and can get a decent belgian one under or around $800 your doing pretty well

    If it says Magnum on the side of the receiver, it's a 3 inch Magnum... otherwise it's 2 3/4.. you can buy new & used barrels for it, even a Japanese barrel will work just fine.

    FN brownings have softer steel then their BC Miroku counterparts, if you plan to do any waterfowling do not use steel shot. Depending on the choke, many older browning humpbacks wear a nice ring bulge in their barrels because of steel shot use. In most cases the bulge is more cosmetic then anything else but, it does retract from resale value.

    Does it have a gold trigger, is it the buck special? If so take the butt plate off and see if there's a business card in there. If so it's mine and was stolen around 75-76. Also it's been reported to the police. Sure would love to get it back.

    If you want to know the choke, take a dime, if it fits in the end it is modaified, if it don`t, it is full .i

    Belgium Browning guns will have their choke designations denoted by the following markings on the barrel.

    * = full choke
    *_ = improved modified
    ** = modified
    **_ = improved cylinder
    **$ = skeet
    *** = cylinder
