    Shotgun from PA to NJ

My father wants to give me a shotgun but he lives in PA. Do I need to send it to an FFL dealer? I have my firearms ID. I never got a gun from out of state before....Not sure of the procedure. Thanks.

You put it in a locked case and drive it to your house.

I'm just guessing but I think the OP wanted to know the LEGAL way to do it.....

So, if you want to do it legally, you need to go through an FFL for the transfer.

There is no long gun registration in NJ. If the gun is not being shipped, and it is compliant, the state doesn't need or care to know about it. My advice is legal.

According to the OP in a previous post, we should all register every gun we own with our local pd. Just a friendly reminder to him. As a courtesy.

I would hesitate in representing that your advice is legal if you are advocating breaking a federal law.

Ok, just what is the Fed law on taking your own shotgun from one state to another?

And by all means, we should register every weapon we own with our local PD, JUST AS A COURTESY. Every one of mine have been for a long time. I wouldn't want them to miss my house when they come to confiscate them.
