so i keep finding more and more land posted by "state park" with people hunting it..

everyone i talk to says its legal with no permit, and 1 guy told me just not on sundays...

i checked for hours and found lists of public land, and these pieces are not on any maps or lists considered "huntable"

but i also know where there are WMA that are not listed either, so that sucks too.. I just drove around and found them on accident.. lol

anyway... anyone have any information on these?

    huntable or not?

is there a list I am not finding with more land on it?

    thanks!

I would refer to the NJ state park maps or website. If its a state park property it will say whether its huntable and what areas you are allowed to hunt on. Your best bet is to find out what park it is and then call the ranger for that park and ask the specifics. They will usually help you out. It has worked for me multiple times in the past.

when in doubt always talk to a c.o face to face.they will be happy to sit down with you and answer your questions.
thumbs up to the co in assunpink who helped me with my concerns when i first started hunting in nj
he assured me that it was ok for me to hunt
i wasnt so sure...seemed like it was a set up to be able to carry a gun in nj.....

Depends on the park. I usually call the office and ask for a map. They send me information such as:

    - no weekend hunting
    - where to park
    - where to not park
    - where to hunt
    - where to not hunt
    - some are bow only

If they are state park signs and don't say no hunting then you can hunt them. Our tax dollars contribute to the purchase of these properties. I know what you mean about them not being mapped out. That's a good thing.

    ok they emialed me back..

like said above..this was my email i got:

jason - the law in NJ is that any open space that is not in active agriculture and is not posted against hunting, is open - as long as it's outside the safety zone limits, you can hunt during the legal seasons - Sunday hunting is not permitted on State Parks (only private land and Wildife Management Areas) - if a legitimate landowner verbally (or in writing) informs you that you cannot hunt his property, you must abide by his wishes - any questions, call me in Trenton at 609-984-1401

That guy is basically saying you can hunt any property you want if it is not posted? Am i reading that wrong. Or is he referring to parks.

He is referring to state open lands and he is correct, but then again, he's the Chief. Tony's a cool breeze. Surprised he answered a question aimed at State Parks and Forestry as he's not with them but with the Division of F&W. Tony is not saying you can hunt un-posted private lands, just state owned lands not otherwise posted against hunting (or trapping or fishing).
