Before you say read the regulations :
There are two segments to the New Jersey black bear hunting season:
Segment A in October, with the first three days for archery only; the final three days for both archery and muzzleloading rifle hunters.
Segment B is for firearms only and is held concurrently with the Six-day Firearm Deer Season in December; the season will be extended the following week if harvest objectives are not met.
I though you could always hunt with a lesser weapon? I have a great bear area that is archery only
I called fish and game and got transferred to a Catherine who did not answer the phone and her mailbox is full, then disconnected.
I think they are over whelmed because i have never gotten an answer to anything i ever called about.
I tried 4 x's to report that i made a mistake of my on line harvest report and nobody ever called me back.
I have had good luck emailing them, might take a day or two to respond but they always get back to me. I'm pretty sure the second bear segment is shotgun/muzzleloader only. On page 51 of the reg book, almost right in the middle of the page it says "Archery Equipment (segemnt A only)"
im trying to figure out why they cant include bear hunting the muzzy opener in 2 weeks. by the shotgun opener the bears will be less active and moving at nite. everyone knows when the harvest numbers are reached they will stop the hunt so why not...
