New to Hunting. Some basic questions:

    Hello Everyone,
I am new to US hunting. I've been hunting for over 25 years in Europe, but moved here hew years ago, and would like to start hunting. I purchased a bow this summer, and practiced hard, and I think Im ready to go in coming winter bow season. I passed the hunters education, shooting, and got my licence.
Now, I do have some basic questions. Since I have no one to go hunting with, I guess I just have to ask these basic questions over the internet. Sorry if the questions seem really dumb, but hunting regulations here are different than in Europe, and I figured better ask than be sorry later.

    - Is baiting deer allowed in nj, specifically in zone 65. I would like to use corn, hoping to have some deer come in winter bow season.
    - as far as hunting time, its 30 min before sunrise, and 30 min after sunset. does this mean you are not allowed on your stand earlier or later than that, or you are not allowed to hunt, place a shot. Also, what if you shoot a deer at dusk, and you end up searching for it later than 30 min after sunset, is that allowed?
    - is antlerless deer a doe in NJ?
    - also, is there a size limit on antlerless deer, some are smaller than the others, so can only the big ones be taken?

I might come up with few more questions, but this is it for now.
Thank you for helping and answering.

    Best,
    nh

please google the NJ Div of Fish Game and Wildlife. There is a digest online - has answer to ALL your questions and being new to NJ, it's a must read. You may still have questions after reading it, but you really must do that first.

Many of your questions are answered within the compendium. Please become familiar with it to ensure you are following are the rules and regulations set forth by F&G. That being said:

-yes you you can bait for deer in NJ
    -you can hunt by yourself
-you not required to wear hunter orange when bow hunting. But if your hunting a public area open to firearms during the winter season I would recommend you wear some.
    - general rule of thumb is shooting light for both sun up and sun down. You are allowed to track deer after sunset
-with the introduction of the phone/online checking system, there are no more meat inspection check in stations
-an antler less deer can be a doe or buck with no or little to no bone
-no size limit but most people hunt the bigger deer

    good luck

It's a state law that you must read the hunting digest. Or at least it should be.

Thanks everyone. I have the digest, which I've been reading. I have too many years of hunting behind to go out unprepared. I guess I just wanted to make sure regarding some points.
There are always some things one cannot be sure. For example, I read in one of these threads that it is illegal to leave the hanging tree stand in the WMA. I spent hours going through the digest to make sure and tried to find that point, only to realize that someone made that up. That is why i figured I would make 200% sure on some points.
    Thanks again.
