Heard son in law shoot, waited about 45 minutes cold and curiosity got the better of me and left blind. Exited woods and was walking along field edge towards son in laws stand when BIG 10 we've been after pops out . I get down on one knee and at 80 yards my shot hit 10 feet to the left of him in winter wheat field. Sighted in gun Saturday and was dailed in. Sick sick sick. Son in law did get big doe. Going to shoot gun. Sick sick sick.
I hunt deer because I love the entire process, the prepartion, the excitement, and the sustained suspense of trying to match my woods lore against the finely honed instincts of these creatures.
Wonder what happened to the gun? Congrats to your son in law.
loose screw on scope mount maybe?
Low scope rings? Not being a wise guy. Had a buddy that his scope
Was ever so slightly touching his barrel because low rings. We almost couldn't tell because the factory sight. We sighted him in with barrel warm when barrel cooled we where on Mars because the scope would not touch a cool barrel. Go figure.
Sorry you missed your buck.
At least you missed your son in law too.
10 feet off at 80 yards? Your bullet must have hit something.
Years ago, when I was hunting with my old T/C Hawkin, I got to my stand early to try to intercept a big 11 point and at first shooting light, I saw the big buck coming right towards my stand. I shouldered my muzzle loader and cocked the hammer. He got within 50 yards and stood broadside. I pulled the trigger and all I heard was click and nothing. The buck looked up at me and took off running. I forgot to put the percussion cap on the nipple. I never saw that buck again.
