Baiting is not feeding. Scatter small amounts of corn (5-10 #), so they have to spend time looking for the kernels. They will come back at dawn to look for it. Big piles and feeders turn them nocturnal.

Because they know that the corn is always there, and they don't really have to look around for it it's in a pile.
Another good strategy is to hunt the funnels. Find areas where the terrain comes together. They will use it as travel routes.
